When the Reverend Newet and his wife Elizabeth Clark Vick died of Yellow Fever in 1819, 18-year-old Martha shared in management of the vast Vick estate and her 8 younger siblings.
She was  executor of a sister's estate and took responsibility for 3 more children. When she died in 1851, her brothers owed her money and she directed the collection and disposition of it in her will.
